Hi there, it’s so good to be back at it. I’m feeling refreshed, especially after today’s big spring clean. The weather is feeling more spring like and so am I. It is the perfect time to do a little spring cleaning before the season officially changes over to summer. Soon I will be more interested in being outside than emptying my closet so today’s brisk spring day was perfect to open the windows, clear the dust, and get rid of a few unused things. Today I’d like to share with you my method for cleaning out my closet. Are you ready for the feeling of freedom that comes with a purge? Let’s get started. 1. First things first, make sure all your clothes are washed and that laundry hamper is empty. This way you have all your clothes there in front of you and nothing is getting left behind. Having all your clothes clean also means that when you make your donate pile it can go straight into the bag and doesn’t need to be washed before being donated, because it already has been. 2. Now that all you have all your clothes take everything out of your closet and dressers and stack all of your clothing in piles on your bed or other large flat surface. Keep them all together to really be clear about just how much you have. Seeing it all together can really encourage you to get rid of more. 3. I mean really take everything out until your closet and/or drawers are totally empty. Then section by section start putting things back in. I like to start with the small things like socks and underwear because I find them easier to purge which gets me going on a good trend of tossing things away. After that I moved to going through all my pants, then all my shirts, etc., holding up item by item and deciding its fate. 4. I have four places it could end up. 1) the garbage if it is ratty and old and not worth repairing or donating, 2) a donate bin or bag set for the Salvation Army, 3) a pile for things that I like and wear but need repairing, or 4) back into the closet. Each item only makes it back into the closet if I like the item, wear the item, and look good in the item (for this last point it also has to fit in order to look good, if it doesn’t fit well it is out). If any of these is not a strong ‘yes’ it must go somewhere else. Occasionally I end up with a pile that I just can’t decide the fate of and I usually save those pieces until everything else in the category has been spoken for. If I got rid of half my shirts maybe I don’t need to get rid of these last 3 that I only wear sometimes. Maybe now that the clutter of the rest is gone I will wear them more. On the other hand if I have plenty of shirts I love and wear and kept maybe I can part with these last 3 that I don’t love as much. Sometimes knowing what you have makes the tough decisions easier, which is why going section by section is really helpful. 5. This final step is really just to tidy things up as you put them away. Make sure things are also aesthetically pleasing and then “AHHHH!” breathe that sigh of relief and appreciate all the airy new space you have gained. Today we got rid of nearly 2 garbage bags full of clothes and a dozen hangers. The closet can breathe again. The hangers have rooms to spread out and nothing is shoved in a tight space anymore. It is a relief to have everything fit so easily again. I would highly encourage you to undertake a little spring cleaning of your own.
It feels really good to let things go. Allow it to be therapeutic for you and do a little spring cleaning in your heart as you go. With each item you get rid of attach something that needs to be purged from your heart. Say to yourself “This shirt is that stupid thing I did last week that I am letting go of,” “This swim suit is also the bitterness I have and I am tossing it out.” Just be careful you don’t love this too much and end up throwing out all your clothes. Let your home and physical world reflect your inner life. It’s time to spring clean, and I really hope you will. Truly. Tasia.

Hi everyone, I write to you from bed with a little cold. I'm recovering from the busiest week in the floral industry: the week leading up to Mother's Day. After working my butt off to send flowers to thousands of mothers my immune system took a hit and this weekend I'm recovering from working hard.
I've been working on some exciting things and I can't wait for the big reveals but for now I just wanted to write to let you know I haven't forgotten about you. In the coming weeks and months you can expect to see some beautiful decor popping up on this blog. Thanks for coming back each week! I love sharing my work with you. Truly. Tasia. Today you’re in for a real treat. I’m sharing a few images from a wedding I had the pleasure of helping with the invitations and decor of. My gorgeous friend Jasmine got married on New Year’s Day this year and it was a spectacular party. Jasmine is an artist whose work is lovely, and airy, with a simple elegance, and you can bet her wedding was just as demure. You can check out her art here and see for yourself. The wedding was photographed by another beautiful friend and all the images other than the first are her incredible handiwork. She shoots so many beautiful weddings, engagements, portraits, and events and showcases them so wonderfully you really ought to check out her work on her website. The first design decision of a wedding is the invitations and I was honoured to be asked to help with them. “You know our personalities,” Jasmine told me, “we just want something simple and elegant.” Without yet knowing what the rest of the wedding would look like I wanted to create an invitation that would match any decor while being, of course, simple and elegant. The rest of the design decisions naturally followed suit. Jasmine and her now husband did most of the planning and decor themselves. My job was just to execute the plan on the day of. Myself, along with a really fun group of helpers made the stunning St Mark’s Place in LaHave, NS even more stunning than it already was. This adorable old church is perched right next to the ocean, teeming with great architecture and vibrant stained glass windows. From there the decor was kept simple, mostly white to balance the colourful glass and wood palette. Touches of rustic and outdoorsy winter accessories were strewn about to add warmth to this winter wedding. It really was such a cozy wedding. Personal photos and hand written signs made the decor feel personal. You could feel the warmth of family and friends even in the decor. Would you look at how stunning these two are?! The stained glass windows they said their vows in front of were framed by trees from the groom’s family home. Draped in twinkle lights, the trees brought the outdoors in, in the most magical way. It was like a secret garden, sheltered from the cold ocean juts outside the doors. This bunting over the head table says it all. This was a wedding all about togetherness.
I never saw myself as someone who would be interested in doing wedding decor but now that I’ve had a tiny taste of it I want more! If you or anyone you know is getting married I would love to help out with the wedding decor. I loved designing the invites and signage and would love to do it again. It was this wedding that got me more into graphic design and I have since leapt into learning even more. Design school can only teach you so much, you need the passion before you really start to learn. I am passionate about becoming a better designer in every way and I love diving deeper into new areas of design. We can often learn more outside of school than we do in it. That is not to say that school is bad or not worthwhile, often it is even necessary, but I love to learn what I want to learn when I want to learn it. This past year out of school has been non-stop, self-driven learning. I pray I never grow tired of it. I pray I am always curious, seeking and discovering. I pray I am always fascinated by this world and always live with eyes wide open. I pray all of this for you too. Let’s be explorers together, searching out lessons with every turn. Let’s love to learn. Truly. Tasia. |
